Don’t Forget Back-to-School Eye Exams
When you’re putting together your back-to-school list, don’t forget to include an eye exam!
We Learn With Our Eyes
Did you know that as much as 80% of a child’s learning occurs through his or her eyes? Not only does clear vision help a student see what’s being written on the chalkboard, but it’s essential to help them understand and remember material being taught as well.
Many schools provide regular vision screenings, but these basic screenings will leave many vision problems unnoticed.
Seeing Clearly Is Only Part Of The Equation
Effective reading and writing take a lot more than just seeing 20/20. In fact, even if your child passes a school vision screening, a comprehensive eye exam is needed to test all of the basic visual skills they need for success. Common tasks such as reading words along a printed page or following a thrown ball in gym class require proper eye teaming and eye tracking—something a school vision screening may not test for.
If your child is nearsighted, we recommend multifocal soft contact lenses to prevent future increases in prescription. We’ve had great success in fitting kids as young as 7 years of age in contact lenses. Over the last 3 years these kids have not increased in their nearsighted prescription unlike the kids who wore glasses or non-multifocal contacts.
